The billet campaign is under way for the upcoming season. Billeting is open to Wayne County residents.
Players come in from all over the country, with the league allowing for players to come from outside the US as well. The Oilers carry a team roster of 25-27 players; the need for ‘host families’ is crucial to the organization. Without billets, the organization cannot put a team on the ice.
Host families provide a home away from home environment which really aides our players as they adjust to life away from home. For some of these young men, this is the first time away from home. Moving away from home can sometimes be an adjustment, and this is why host families are an essential part to the junior hockey experience. Our players range in age from 16-20 years old. They play hockey at the pre-college, junior level. The players arrive in mid-August for training camp. The regular season starts in September and goes until mid-March. High school age players school ‘on-line’; having access to the internet is vital. All players are responsible for their transportation to and from practice, games, and team events.
A monthly stipend (per player) is paid to the billet family. We strive to have enough billets where we can place two players in each household. If the need for enough billet families is not fulfilled, we will ask if an additional player can be accommodated.
We take great pride in the young men who comprise the Wooster Oilers and we like to have residents of our community feel it is a privilege to billet them.
