Justyn Gillis came up big, stopping 30 of 31 shots throughout the game. The Wooster Oilers took the lead late in the first on a goal from Hunter Hillebrecht and never looked back.
Hunter Hillebrecht contributed with 3 points (1 goal, 2 assists) and Daniel Critzer delivered for his team with 2 points (1 goal, 1 assist).
During the first period, Banyasz opened the scoring for Wooster with a goal at 11:57 with helpers from his linemates, Kesto and Critzer. Hillebrecht deposited what turned out to be the game winning goal at 16:32 with helpers from his teammates Banyasz and Barney.
In the second, Malinak scored a goal at 10:56 with assists from Barney and Hillebrecht.
In the third, Carter finally put the Cherokee on the board with a goal at 9:31 with helpers from Howell and Weinrich. Critzer answered for Wooster with a goal at 18:31 with assists from Hillebrecht and Barney.
The Oilers’ victory was in no doubt helped out by Gillis’ big night as he stopped 30 of the 31 shots he faced. Gillis’ counterpart, Brouillette, also had a big night, managing to stop 38 of 42, but ultimately fell short.
This win brings the Wooster Oilers’ record to (14-12-3-0).
