Pennsylvania top junior prospect, Matthew Crosby has been acquired for the 2017-2018 Wooster Oilers squad. The 5′8″, 160lbs skilled power forward is from Erie, PA. Crosby, 17, played the previous season with the NA3HL Southern Tier Express. Matt will be attending the NAHL Odessa Jackalopes Main Camp this summer. Crosby spoke about why he decided to make the move to Wooster when he said, “I made the transition to the Wooster Oilers because I feel it’s the best program for me to succeed. I like the dedication and coaching style of Coach Aaron. I also see a high value in Coach Aaron’s encouragement he gives to his players. He does this both on and off of the ice. He expects our very best every single game which is something I think will help us grow as competitors. Tyler Groth was a former teammate of mine in Southern Tier and when he made the move to Wooster he ended up finishing his junior career with the NA3HL league award for community service because of his time in Wooster. Most importantly, I look forward to working with Coach Aaron because I feel he can develop me into a better hockey player and person both on the ice and off”. Crosby had a very productive year for Southern Tier this previous season with 9 goals and 14 assists. He also commented on his junior experience playing an important team role when he said “Coming to this team as a third year junior player, I feel I can offer some valuable junior hockey experience as well as share a positive attitude with my new teammates”.
“Bringing Matthew Crosby into our program was an important move. He is a tough and coachable player who will contribute positive things to our team every night. He not only expands our depth, but I am very excited to start working with him so he can find success within our Wooster Oilers style of play. I believe this is a great fit”, said Head Coach Aaron Hernandez.
