Standout Ohio goaltender, Joe Ackley becomes the sixteenth and final player to sign a Tender with the 2017-2018 Wooster Oilers. The 6’3″, 175lbs standout goaltender is from Columbus, OH. Ackley, 17, played the previous season with the PHA Prowlers. He will be attending the NAHL Odessa Jackalopes Main Camp this summer. Ackley spoke about why he decided on Wooster when he said, “I signed with the Wooster Oilers because I feel that it is a great organization that provides all of the resources to help fully prepare players to compete night in and night out. I am looking forward to working with Coach Aaron this season because he really looks out for all of his players, and commits himself to moving them on to higher levels of play”. Ackley put up some good numbers for the Prowlers this previous season with a 0.919 SV% (save percentage) and a 2.52 GAA (goals against average). Ackley and the Prowlers were 2017 Ohio Club High School Hockey State Runners-Up and Ackley was selected to the Greater Columbus High School Club Hockey League All-Academic First Team.

“The addition of Joe Ackley has been a long time in the making. We have been scouting Joe for a couple of years. The time is finally right for us to work together and we couldn’t be happier about that. Joe brings solid fundamentals, a big frame, and a talent for stopping the puck. He is a very calm, but yet competitive goaltender. I think this new level will both challenge and aid him in his growth as a person and player”, said Head Coach Aaron Hernandez.

Congratulations Joe!
